Sun your Son

It's 6am and I'm sitting at my desk watching the sun rising over the hills across the river. Wondering what to write about, the answer is suddenly obvious. After a day of warmth and calm yesterday I think it's time to celebrate the sun. We haven't seen or felt it much this winter so I'm kind of excited.
I've just discovered an interesting book called The Green Hour by Todd Christopher - a Daily Dose of Nature for Happier Healthier Kids. With so many families living in cities, it's easy to miss out on the discussion of the elements. I mean, how many of you know what a sundial looks like? I remember being fascinated by these garden decorations, a common addition amongst the roses or ponds of older homes back in Ireland. Was it a clock? Did people rely on this for telling the time? How on earth did someone come up with this idea? Oh so many questions for a little girl...
Well if this kind of thing interests you, then why not try making your own sundial from his book or heading outdoors to find some dandelion clocks. Discuss the time with these two objects and breathe in the air as it passes you by. And here's a question for you. Is the sun REALLY yellow?
